I've been writing on a little Blogger site for a while now. 163 entries, if you're counting. State parks, fishing trips, documentaries I couldn't stop thinking about, and a lot of mornings on the back porch with a cup of coffee.
This week I moved all of it here, to mikeisoutside.com.
Why move? Mostly because I want to keep in touch with the people who read this stuff. Blogger was a fine place to write, but it didn't give anyone an easy way to come back. Now you can subscribe, and new posts will show up in your inbox. It's free, and it always will be.
What this is about
Looking back over 163 posts, two questions keep showing up.
The first is why time outdoors matters to us. Not just what we do outside, but what we get from it. The meaning we find in it, and the way certain places stick with us long after we leave.
The second is what it takes to lead well in conservation and outdoor recreation. How we manage parks and public lands, how we bring the next generation into this work, and how research can actually help the people doing it.
Some posts start with research. Some start with a book, a documentary, or a day on Crooked Creek. Most end up somewhere in between.
Where to start
If you're new, I put together a short list of the posts that best explain what this is about: Start Here.
What to expect
A couple of new posts a month. Some reflective, some practical, and a few that are just about a good day outside. You can reply to any email, and I'd genuinely like to hear what you're thinking about too.
Thanks for reading. Now go outside.
-Mike
